Microgaming has been at the forefront of the table games sector for over a decade, especially with their iconic Gold Series. Now, they are revamping these games to bring them up to date, and they’re starting with exceptionally high-quality versions of European blackjack and American roulette, two of the most popular games by volume. These new games come from their collaboration with Switch Studios, a company that has produced games for Quickfire before.

Bringing Online Table Games Into the Modern Era

It can really seem like online slots get all of the love when it comes to the online casino industry, but Microgaming in conjunction with Switch Studios will be changing the tone of the table games conversation with their upcoming new releases.

This marks one of the first times that a major provider has pulled forward to push the envelope on these particular table games: European blackjack and American roulette.

Both of these games are generally seen as staples for the industry as a whole, and it’s unlikely to find many top-rated casinos that don’t have them both, sometimes in multiple variations. This also paves the way for most new titles in the table games genre in the future.

Visual Appeal and Gameplay Quality

There are two key aspects of the experience that players look for in table games. First, they look for how the games look and feel from a visual and aesthetic standpoint. The soundtrack and sound effects come into play to a smaller degree because it’s pretty hard to mess those up.

However, the gameplay quality is also important, but that’s something that Microgaming has done well with their table games since they first came on the scene with the first software for an online casino in the mid-1990s. They definitely know how to give players favorable feature sets, smooth play and solid payout rates compared to the industry standard for these types of games.

The Issue With American Roulette

Many players reading this will be aware that American roulette generally isn’t the best option since European roulette offers virtually the exact same type of gameplay with a significantly lower house advantage.

While this is true, what you need to see here is that it would be very easy to convert this game and/or use the same basic format to build out a new European roulette game, and we anticipate that will come in the future.

While you may only want to check it out for a short period of time to see how it looks, the bottom line is that this is a strong step forward for the table games genre in the general sense.

What Makes European Blackjack Stand Out

European blackjack is a cool game because it changes one of the fundamental dynamics of blackjack: The dealer does not peek for blackjack if there’s an ace or ten card showing face-up. This means that the strategies have to be adjusted properly, or players will run into some serious problems.

The end result is that European blackjack is often a fairly unique game from a strategic standpoint because a lot of the standard playing lines don’t work well here, especially when facing an ace. Since players can be threatened with a dealer blackjack at any time, the rates of using the double and split options are cut down. However, that’s compensated for by other rules that require a bit more creativity and planning than other styles of the game, which is why this is such a popular blackjack variation.

What to Expect

Overall, Switch Studios is showing once again why they are a critical contributor to the Microgaming Quickfire casino software suite. If this initiative works out, then we can probably expect to see more new table games being rolled out over the upcoming months, but we’ll have to wait and see to be certain.
