Online casino software developer Red Tiger Gaming has recently announced that they will be one of the lucky few operators to debut when Switzerland opens its online gambling market for the first time. The Swiss market is slated to open on July 1, and while many operators have applied for licensure, only a fair few have been given the green light so far.

A Controversial Process

For years, the Swiss gaming market has been closed to foreign and online operators. In 2018, the country introduced The Gaming Act, which would legalize online gambling, and it was put to referendum. The bill passed with 73 percent approval, but it still has quite a bit of controversy surrounding it.

The main issues with the bill are twofold. First, it only accounts for land-based casinos inside the country when granting online gambling licenses. Second, the wording of the bill allows the government to interfere with the market by authorizing internet providers to block access to foreign gambling sites.

These two caveats effectively clamp an iron fist around the market and have sparked heated debate within the public. The public outcry was particularly fiery over the government allowing local authorities to blacklist certain websites, as this is viewed by many as a violation of free speech.

In spite of these flaws, however, there is plenty of excitement and anticipation surrounding the upcoming launch. So far, there have been four land-based casinos that have applied for online licenses, and Red Tiger Gaming has already received certification to be a part of the inaugural day.

Continuous Growth and Expansion

Red Tiger has not slowed down in its mission of expanding into as many regulated markets as possible. While Switzerland may be keeping a tight rein on its online gambling market, this has not stopped Red Tiger from stepping in and doing whatever it takes to be present for the July 1 launch.

When asked for comment about their latest expansion efforts, Red Tiger’s commercial director Chris Looney said that they are “looking forward to launching in Switzerland and are excited about the opportunities that the country presents.”

Red Tiger is always looking to expand its reach in regulated markets. As a result, we are well-set to offer operators a portfolio of games that are proven revenue generators.

The company received the ISO 27001 certification for safety and security in November 2018, and this additional certification has positioned them perfectly to break into the Swiss market and gain a substantial foothold via local operators.

Ahead of their Switzerland debut, Red Tiger has also struck distribution deals within the markets of Sweden, Denmark, Italy and, most recently, Gibraltar.
