An Introduction to Live Quantum Blackjack

In the live dealer blackjack space online, there are a lot of games that are functionally very similar. This can lead players to wonder what the point is of picking one over the other. For Playtech, they understand this issue for players, and they build atypical games with special features to give players something different to look forward to.

Live Quantum Blackjack Multipliers
Live Quantum Blackjack Multipliers

This is very much the case with Live Quantum Blackjack. There is no other live blackjack game out there that really compares.

The idea here is really straightforward. The gameplay is changed a bit by offering multipliers at random that are worth as much as 1,000x. Of course, there is a small disadvantage added for players to compensate for these larger wins. However, the return to player percentage is still well over 99 percent for correct play.

On the presentation front, Playtech did not disappoint in any sense of the word. You have a somewhat futuristic feel in this game with a blue on black motif. It looks a little like the controls on a spaceship in a sci-fi movie. However, they didn’t overdo it to the point of it looking gaudy. Instead, it comes across really well from a visual presentation standpoint.

The Best Casinos for Live Quantum Blackjack

When searching for sites to play this game, we recommend looking for all of the usual things. You should include a focus on things like strong licensing, a good reputation and the backing of an operating company that has a solid history in the industry.

However, those are all of the normal things you should look for regardless. Additionally, you should look for a site that offers Playtech’s live games selection as well. On top of that, we recommend seeking out casinos with good promotions for their live dealer titles. This usually won’t be in the form of big ongoing bonuses, though some may have live dealer bonuses as a one-off, and that may or may not be worth it depending on the terms and conditions.

Instead, we recommend looking more toward things like loyalty programs and other ongoing deals. The house edge is already really low in this game with correct play. That means that any ongoing dent you can put in the house advantage with promotions will be meaningful.

What Sets This Game Apart From Others

Before we get into the actual game mechanics and procedures, we need to address what makes this game different. Overall, there’s a mechanic that increases your payout rate along with another mechanic that decreases it by a comparable amount. Consider the following:

  • Payout Increase – An increase in payout rate comes from multipliers. Before each hand, up to three specific cards (rank and suit) are shown behind the dealer on a screen. These multipliers can give you better payouts than usual.
  • Payout Decrease – A decrease in payout rate comes from it only being a push when the dealer busts out with three cards. This is actually a pretty significant change from a strategic standpoint in certain situations.

To play this game well, you have to take advantage of the increase while minimizing the impact of the decrease. This is the basis of the overall set of strategies needed in this game.

Hand Sharing Format

We also want to point out that everyone plays the same cards in this game. This type of format helps to avoid situations where you have to wait on other players to take their turn at a traditional style of live dealer game. However, you still get to play the hand however you want, and here’s how.

The player cards are shown when they are dealt, and then they are fed into a computer scanning system. Those cards are not left on the table. Instead, you get to play the hand however you want, and the other cards are dealt to offer to players what they would receive if they used up more cards that you.

This approach speeds the game along a lot, and it’s a big feature that will probably be largely overlooked.

Rules and Gameplay Procedure

With that out of the way, we’re going to get into the rules and how the game is played. If you haven’t played any type of blackjack before, or if you’d like a primer, then we’ll have you covered. However, even if you’re familiar with the typical game rules, we still suggest reading over this. There are bits and pieces different in this game than others, even outside of the above. Knowing those differences can help to give you a much better experience.

A Basic Hand Playthrough

We’ll start by walking players through how a typical hand will go. Further below, we’ll get more into other details of how this game works.

  1. You start by placing a bet for the main game. Side bets will be covered further down.
  2. After placing your bet, two cards will be dealt each for the player and the dealer. Both of the player’s cards are face-up. However, only one of the dealer’s cards are face-up.
  3. Cards are scored based on a straightforward system. The cards 2-10 are worth their face value, and face cards are worth 10. Additionally, an ace can be worth 1 or 11 points, and its value can switch in the middle of the hand. An ace is assigned as an 11 if it doesn’t cause the player to have more than 21 points. It’s assigned as a 1 otherwise.
  4. The player gets to choose between a handful of strategic options. These can manipulate the bet size to some extent, and they can add cards. We’ll get into more detail about how these options work down below.
  5. If the player goes over 21 points, that is called busting out. This results in the player losing the bet and the cards with no chance to win.
  6. However, if the player doesn’t bust out, once the turn is over, the dealer’s turn begins.

The Dealer’s Turn

  1. The dealer will add one card at a time (known as hitting) until a total of 17 or more is reached. If the dealer goes over a total of 21, that’s a bust. When the dealer busts, if the player is still in the game, it pays 1:1 if the dealer has four or more cards, and it’s a push if the dealer only has three.
  2. If neither busts out, then it becomes a simple comparison of who has the higher prize. Ties are a push.
  3. Wins are typically paid at 1:1 with the exception of blackjack, which is when a player’s first two cards give 21. Blackjacks pay at 3:2.
  4. Multiplier cards in a player’s hand can increase this payout. We’ll get more into how that works down below.
Live Quantum Blackjack Main Screen

Overall, this isn’t a particularly hard game to learn, but there are a few things to pick up. It’s not as simple as something like roulette, however, so it will take some practice. We recommend watching a few hands to get the flow of the game before jumping in.

How the Multipliers Work

Before the beginning of each game, but after the wagers are placed, three random cards are chosen. These are shown by their suit and rank on a screen behind the dealer. If you have a winning hand, and if your hand includes at least one of these multipliers, then those multipliers apply to your payout.

What’s really cool is that you can have up to three of these cards shown at a time. That means that up to three of them can make their way into your hand. When this happens, their multipliers are themselves multiplied together. For example, if you had a 2x, 2x and 5x, that would result in a 20x multiplier overall.

The individual multipliers can range from 2x to 10x apiece. That means it’s possible to have three 10x multipliers in the same hand for a win worth up to 1,000x. There’s not really any other non-progressive blackjack game out there that offers a comparable top win like this.

Strategic Options

When it’s the player’s turn to take action, there are a few different choices that can be made. Some options are only available in certain situations, and others are always available. In any event, we’ll break them down in the following:

  • Stand – Standing is always available. This option simply ends your turn without adding any new cards or changing the bet.
  • Hit – Hitting is also always available. This will add one card from the deck to your hand. However, it does not end your turn or change the overall bet size.
  • Double – You can only double if you have two cards in this game. It will require you to add an additional wager worth the original size of your bet (hence “doubling”). It also adds exactly one card to your hand, but it also ends your turn after that card is received.
  • Split – Splitting is only available with two cards and only if they have the same rank. The two cards are “split” apart to form two new hands. You must add an additional bet worth the same size as your original as the wager for the extra hand.

Reading the situation to know which of these options to play with is how strategy works in this game. Along these lines, there is a lot of strategic depth because of that.

Side Bets

There are two different side bets available at the Live Quantum Blackjack tables. They’re both pretty popular in terms of blackjack side bets, and they have reasonable pay tables. Here we’ll break down both of them along with their payouts and what you can expect.

21+3 Side Bet

The 21+3 is one of the most popular side bets available in all of blackjack. Playtech gives the wager their own twist with an improved pay table over what’s normal. The basic idea is that the two cards you are initially given are compared along with the dealer’s up card to a three card poker pay table. That pay table is as follows:

  • Three of a Kind (Suited) – 100x
  • Straight Flush – 40x
  • Three of a Kind (Not Suited) – 30x
  • Straight – 10x
  • Flush – 5x

We want to point out two things here. First, the “straight flush” category includes the three card royal combination of AKQ. Second, the reason that a straight is higher than a flush here is because it’s a three card pay table. In three card poker, it’s harder to get a straight than a flush. This is the opposite of the case for the traditional five card hands.

This side bet pays out at 96.3 percent.

Perfect Pairs Side Bet

The Perfect Pairs wager is another really popular blackjack side bet. A pretty standard pay table is used here, but it’s definitely on the higher paying side. The idea is that you look at the two cards you’re dealt and see if they’re the same rank. If they are, then you get a payout based on the following:

  • Perfect Pair (same suit) – 25x
  • Colored Pair (same color, not same suit) – 12x
  • Mixed Pair (not same color) – 6x

A lot of players like to mix the two side bets, and that’s a completely viable option. However, the Perfect Pairs side bet by itself has a payout rate of 95.9 percent.

How to Win at Live Quantum Blackjack

The first thing to do to maximize your payout rate in this game is to learn what’s called basic strategy. This is the set of standard options to take in all of the possible situations for a multi-deck game. From there, you’ll want to make adjustments based on the special rules used in this title.

  • If you have a multiplier card in your hand, you should be less aggressive about hitting. This is because you’ll have no chance of the multiplier paying out if you bust.
  • You should also be more aggressive with medium-range totals when facing mid-range dealer cards. Specifically with starting totals of 14 through 16, you should hit more when facing cards like a 6 or 7. This is because you get less value from the chances that the dealer goes bust since the dealer busting on three cards is a push.

Some other adjustments can be had in this title, but these cover the majority of what you need to know.

The Live Quantum Blackjack tables provided by Playtech have a lot to offer. With the high multipliers available, you can end up winning the equivalent of some pretty serious jackpots. That’s not something you can say about most blackjack games, especially in the live dealer space. As a result, we really like this game, and we strongly recommend it to blackjack and table game fans.
