Dragon Roulette

Dragon Roulette

Dragon Roulette is a style of Asian-inspired roulette found in a variety of locations. It’s based around a lot of the same ideas as the European style. However, the wheel is not based on numbers, and the available bets are set up in a much different way, all of which give players a different type of experience.

An Introduction to Dragon Roulette

A variety of styles of roulette are out there, and while many of them claim to be different, a lot of them are pretty similar. It’s rare to see something really break away from the pack. However, that’s exactly what happened with the Dragon Roulette tables by Elvsium Studios.

If you love roulette but want something fresh and different, this is the game to play.

The first thing virtually all players will notice is that the game board is completely different. Everything is based on a series of icons with different shades of colors. For example, you’ll find purple, blue, green and red versions of symbols like a yin-yang, the lucky number 8, the lucky number 7, tigers and more. The layout is set up to work really well on mobile, but the symbols are incredibly detailed and outright gorgeous.

As far as the gameplay goes, the game is designed to have two different views. One view allows you to see the board really well and to place your bets however you want. However, the second view happens when a spin is in progress. You get to actually watch the ball travel and land instead of just waiting on a number to pop up. That adds a lot to the experience on a very serious level.

The Basic Gameplay of Dragon Roulette

Everything in this game is set up to be even more user friendly than most other styles of the game. However, we’ll walk you through a simple play round to show you how it works, especially if you’re new to the genre or haven’t played in a while.

  1. You’ll start by placing chips on the game board in different positions. We’ll show how to make the various available bets down below.
  2. Players can change the size of the chip they’re placing by going through the interface in the bottom-left corner.
  3. When you’re ready, press the golden dragon symbol in the bottom-right corner to spin. You’ll see a ball spin on a wheel full of symbols until it lands.
  4. The symbol it lands on determines which wagers win and which do not. Additionally, you’ll be paid out immediately if you hit a win.
  5. From there, the bets are open again, and the process continues.

This process is not particularly complicated. However, once you get into the specific wagers that are available in Dragon Roulette, you start to see how much depth the title has.

Red and Black: Even Money Wagers

If you’re used to the mainstream styles of roulette, then you’ll notice that a lot of even money bets are gone. You’ll notice that wagers like 1-18, 19-36, even and odd are not found on the board. The reason for this is the lack of numbers.

Instead, this game only has two even money wagers available: red and black. When you place your chips on the red or black sections in the bottom of the middle of the board, you’ll win at a rate of 1:1 if the wheel lands on a symbol with your wagered color in the background. However, the golden dragon symbol has a green background and wins for neither of these.

Dragon Side Bet and Thirds Wagers

This title has nine different ways to place bets that pay out at 2:1. First off, they include the I, II and III sections shown at the bottom of the game board. Placing your chips on these spaces will win on the first, second and third “thirds” of the table. To keep things clear, when you hover over those betting areas, the spaces that win for you are highlighted in gold for clarity.

Another set of wagers that’s unique to Dragon Roulette is the Dragon Side Bet. These are all bets that pay out 2:1, and they’re on various groupings of 12 numbers spread across the reels. At the top-left and top-right portions of board, you can see sections that read “2 : 1” on each side. These are the tiles for the Dragon Side Bet options.

When you hover over each of them, they’ll highlight the set of symbols you’ll wager on for each position.

This gives players a whole lot more different options for wagers that pay out 2:1 than you get in other styles of the game.

Traditional Inside Wagers

One thing this title does carry over from European Roulette and other similar titles is a set of inside wagers. However, not every inside bet is available. Here is a quick overview of the ones that are.

Straight Up Bet

A straight-up is when you only want to wager on a single position in this game. You can make more than one of these at a time, but we’re talking about each individual bet.

To make this wager, you need to put your chips directly in the center of the given square. If they’re hanging over the side, you’re actually making a different type of wager. We’ll get to that down below.

No matter which of the symbols you bet on, the payout will be the same. It’s a 35:1 win for any straight-up win, which is the best payout in this slot for a single wager.

Split Bets

If you want to make a single bet on two adjacent symbols, you can. However, they must be touching horizontally or vertically and not diagonally.

All you need to do is place your chips on the middle of the line that separates them. This will double your chances of winning compared to a straight-up wager. Additionally, it will change the payout to adjust accordingly.

The payout for winning with either of the symbols on a split wager is 17:1.

Corner Bets

The last of the inside bets that has carried over to this game is the corner bet. When four symbols are all adjacent to each other and form a square, you can wager on all four of them simultaneously. This is called a corner bet.

However, doing it is easier than you might expect. Simply place your chips on the corner that the four of them share. It will be directly on the intersection of the two lines.

Your payout for winning with a corner bet is 8:1. Additionally, we want to point out that this wager is probably the most balanced in the game in terms of volatility.

How to Win at Dragon Roulette

One of the really cool things about this game is how it works out from a mathematical perspective. What we mean is that every single bet on the table has the exact same house advantage. This edge is 2.7 percent no matter how much you wager.

However, what does change is the volatility of your bets. The higher the payout in this game, the higher the volatility. For example, a straight-up wager with its 35:1 win is the highest volatility bet available. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the red and black bets have a payout of 1:1 and have the lowest volatility of any wager in this game.

Our recommendation is to use smaller bets for high-volatility wagers and larger bets when the volatility is low. For the bets that fall between these extremes, you can scale things accordingly. This helps to keep the swings from getting out of hand overall.

Pros of Dragon Roulette

  • The graphics are atypical, creative and particularly detailed.
  • With the Dragon Side Bet, you get several betting options not available at more traditional roulette tables.
  • Your house advantage stays the same no matter which bets you make.

Cons of Dragon Roulette

  • We would have liked to see more new and atypical wagers or side bets made available.
  • Some of the traditional inside wagers are not made available in this game.

Overview

Dragon Roulette is one of those games that stands out in a genre when most titles do not. Elvsium Studios did an absolutely tremendous job with it on every single level. If you’re a roulette fan, and you’re getting tired of the same old thing, it’s definitely worth giving this title a try.
