Gameplay Procedure

In any event, this is how the procedure of the game goes:

1. The dealer will alert the players that it is the time to place bets. Different providers give different amounts of time to place your wagers at this point.
2. The timer ends, and the dealer announces, “No more bets!,” as the wheel is spun, and a small ball is put onto the wheel.
3. After a couple of moments, the ball will settle on one of the numbers 0-36, and that is the number that determines which bets win.
4. If you have a winning bet, it will be paid to you, and losing bets are removed from the board.
5. With most providers, you will be given an option to simply repeat your previous bet or to choose a different one.

Note also that you can make multiple bets at the same time in this game, and you aren’t restricted to only making the same kind of bet on the same spin. The Available Bets and Wagers

In at the European roulette live tables, you’ll have two primary types of bets. We’re going to break these bets up into three groups based on where you place the bets and the chances that some of them may not be available with all software providers.

Outside Wagers

The outside wagers are given their name because they happen outside of the grid of numbers that you see on the table layout. These are almost always listed below the grid in various boxes, but sometimes they can be off to the side as well.

The first outside bets to look at are the even money bets, and they’re the ones that most new players start with because they’re really easy to understand and play. The red, black, even, odd, 1-18 and 19-36 wagers pay at 1:1 when you win, and they are pretty intuitive. If you wager on red, you win if you land a red number. If you wager on even*, you win if you land on an even number.

* Note that the green zero does not count as an even number for this wager.

From there, there are two more sets of outside wagers to look at, and these all pay twice the amount of the even money bets. The 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12 wagers win on 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36, respectively. If you look at the far end of the table on the opposite side of the green zero, you’ll see three spots usually marked “column” or “2:1.” These win on the top, middle and bottom line of numbers accordingly.

With these 2:1 wagers, you have a lower chance of winning than the even money bets, but you’ll profit double the amount of your wager if you win. They have a little bit more variance, but they’re really easy to play with and are very intuitive.

Common Inside Wagers

Now we get to the part that can be the most confusing aspect of live dealer table European roulette. There are a variety of inside bets, named such because you bet inside of the grid of numbers, and they are all based on individual spots or groups of adjacent spots that you’re wagering on.

Here we’ll briefly list out what the most common inside wagers are that you’ll find at virtually every table no matter the software provider:

• Double Row or Double Street – Pays 5:1. A wager on two adjacent vertical rows of three numbers each (eg: 4-5-6 and 7-8-9). Place your chips at the top corner where the two rows meet.
• Corner Wager – Pays 8:1. A wager on four numbers that meet at the same intersection of lines or corner. Place your chips on that corner to make the bet.
• Row Wager – Pays 11:1. A wager on three numbers that make a vertical row (eg: 16-17-18 or 34-35-36). Place your chips in the center of the top of that row to make the wager. Also known as a street bet.
• Split Wager – Pays 17:1. A wager on two numbers that are horizontally or vertically adjacent to each other. Place your chips in the center of the line that connects them to make the bet.
• Straight-up Wager – Pays 35:1. A wager on a single number on the grid. Place your chips on the center of the spot for that given number to make the wager.

These five bets make up the most common inside wagers in terms of what are used by players, but they also make up what’s always available from all different software providers for live dealer European roulette games. The same cannot be said for the next set of bets we look at.

Other Inside Wagers

There are two more types of wagers that you can see that work in a similar way as some of the above but that include the green zero in a set of numbers that you’re betting on. The following two wagers are usually, but not always, available depending on the software provider you play with. We don’t know why some providers remove these bets since they’re in line with everything else, but that’s just the reality of the situation.

• Top Four Wager – Pays 8:1. A wager on the 0-1-2-3 cluster of numbers (zero plus the first row). Put your chips on the outside corner where the zero and 3 meet to make this bet. Also known as a First Four bet.
• Triple Wager – Pays 11:1. A wager on the 0-1-2 or 0-2-3 clusters of numbers (zero plus a split wager on the 1-2 or 2-3). Put your chips on the corner that is shared by the three numbers you’re wagering on to make this bet. This is also called a Trio or Trios bet.

Again, it’s not that these two bets are particularly complicated once you understand how they work, but they do not always show up as valid wagers sometimes. This is a decision by the software developers that we can’t explain; perhaps they think it’ll confuse players too much.

How to Win at Live Dealer European Roulette

Something worth knowing if you’re going to play this game is that there is no particular winning strategy that you need to follow. The math of the game works out so that every single possible individual wager, no matter where it is or what the odds of winning are, will have the exact same house advantage of about 2.70 percent.

However, you can adjust the volatility of your bets by picking those that have a higher risk and higher reward, but your average payout on those bets won’t actually change in the long run.

If you have trouble remembering the payout amounts for the different wagers, then you’re in luck. There is a quick shortcut that you can learn in just a few moments that will tell you the payout for any wager in live European roulette:

1. Take note of how many spots on the wheel can win your bet.
2. Divide 36 by the number found in step 1.
3. Subtract 1.

That’s it. For example, if you want to know the payout for a Top Four wager, you start by noting that it’ll win on four spots on the wheel. You then divide 36 by 4, which gives you 9. Subtract 1 from that to get 8, which means your payouts are 8:1.

Overview

It’s really difficult to find a live dealer table game that’s more popular than the single-zero, European style of roulette. The only one that comes close is certain variations of Baccarat in specific Asian countries, but that’s very much a regional difference.
