Rules and Gameplay
The rules of this game are not particularly difficult to learn. If you were just learning to play roulette, we’d actually recommend that you try this title. The reason for that is that it’s a little more simplistic than the usual full-sized versions. With that said, it’s not simplified down to the point of being boring, and instead, it strikes a solid balance.
When playing a betting round in this game, here’s what happens:
- Start by choosing chips from the selection interface in the bottom-left corner. This will allow you to make bets from the €0.10 table minimum up to €100 per wager.
- Placing those chips on different places on the game board on the right selects your wagers. However, we’ll get into all of the available bets down below.
- Once you’re ready, hit the spin button in the bottom-right corner. A ball will spin and fall on the spinning wheel until it lands on a specific number.
- If the winning number is a part of your wager (or wagers), you win according to the payout rate for those bets. Again, we’ll list those out below because several of them are available.
That’s really all there is to this game on the most fundamental level. However, when it comes to listing out the actual bets, there’s a bit more involved.
Outside Wagers to Choose From
The first bets that you’ll want to learn about are the outside wagers. The outside wagers get their name from being “outside” of the grid of numbers. First off, a few of these have even money payouts:
- Black and Red – You’re betting that the background color of the winning number is black or red, respectively.
- Even and Odd – To win on these bets, you’re wagering on the winning number being even or odd. Note that the green zero wins for neither of these bets.
- 1-6, 4-9 and 7-12 – Players win if their number falls into the range they bet on. Each range covers six numbers, just like the black, red, even and odd bets.
Aside from that, you can also make what are called column wagers. They’re marked with the “2to1” squares on the right-hand side of the game board, and they win at a rate of 2:1 instead of even money.
- Top Column – Win on 3, 6, 9 or 12
- Middle Column – Win on 2, 5, 8, 11
- Bottom Column – Win on 1, 4, 7, 10
Players who are familiar with traditional roulette games will notice that Mini Roulette is missing a variety of other outside bets. At the same time, some of these types of wagers don’t really have matching counterparts in regular game styles. As a result, you’re getting something that’s a bit different with your betting options.
Inside Wagers
The inside bets in Mini Roulette are very similar to what you find in other titles. However, with so few numbers available, it’s hard to make many of them that do not overlap. Additionally, the payouts are all a bit different because of the fewer numbers on the board.
- Straight Up – When you place a bet on a single number, it’s called a straight up. It has a payout of 11:1 here, and you put your chips in the center of the number you want to bet on.
- Split – A split is a wager on two adjacent numbers (vertically or horizontally only). Simply place your chips on the middle of the line that separates them for a chance at a 5:1 payout for winning.
- Street (aka Row) – A street or row is a set of three numbers in a vertical line. Put your chips on the middle of the top line of the given row for this wager. It pays a straightforward 3:1.
- Trio – You can place your chips at the corner of the 0-1-2 or 0-2-3 combinations to bet on all three numbers. It has the same 3:1 payout as a street bet.
- Corner – When four numbers form a square, you can bet on all four by putting your chips on the shared corner. A corner wager pays out at 2:1 for this game.
Note that double street bets are not allowed here as inside wagers. However, all three are available as outside wagers immediately under the number grid. They’re listed as 1-6, 4-9 and 7-12.
How to Win at Mini Roulette
Something that’s critical to know about this game is that the volatility changes based on which wagers you make. However, the return to player percentage, on average, does not change at all between bets. That’s because every single bet available in this game has the exact same house advantage.
Additionally, this means that your main adjustments for your bets will come from changing up the volatility to match what you’re looking for and prefer. For example, a €1 bet on a straight up wager will have a much higher volatility than a €1 wager on red. However, they both still have the same house advantage in the long run.
As far as strategy goes, because all bets have the same house edge, there are no best and worst wagers. However, what you can do is adjust your bet size for the volatility. You should save your lowest bet sizes for the higher volatility wagers. Additionally, you should use larger bet sizes for the low-volatility bets. For the options in between these extremes, a happy medium is advised.
With all of this in mind, the game of Mini Roulette by Playtech does have a high house advantage overall. In fact, it’s even higher than American Roulette. That means it’s good as a fun diversion, but we wouldn’t recommend making it your main game.
