An Introduction to Power Up Roulette

This is the second live roulette game with multipliers to be added to Pragmatic Play’s portfolio. However, even though the concept for Mega Roulette and Power Up Roulette may be the same, that’s where the similarities end.

Set in a large studio, players are able to see the big screen behind the roulette wheel which shows the grid layout and multipliers clearly. There are multiple camera angles including close-ups of the roulette wheel as the live dealer spins the ball.

Rules of Power Up Roulette

If you’re a fan of European Roulette you’ll already be familiar with the layout and basic rules of this live dealer game. Don’t worry if you’re a newbie though, the Power Up Roulette rules are pretty simple and you’ll soon be playing like a pro.

Let’s start with some basics:

  • The game is played on a single zero European Roulette wheel;
  • Only Straight Up bets qualify for the multiplier wins;
  • Multipliers are assigned to all numbers (0-36) during the Power Up bonus round;
  • Straight Up bet payouts are 24 to 1 (European Roulette is usually 35 to 1);
  • The live dealer manually spins the roulette wheel;
  • Power Up spins can be retriggered up to four times;
  • Multipliers double on each retriggered Power Up bonus round.

As in classic roulette, the objective is to predict in which numbered pocket of the wheel the ball will land. Besides the Straight Up bets, all others follow the standard roulette payouts.

Betting Options

You will have 20 seconds to place your bets before the live dealer announces time. Bets can be placed directly onto the table or by using the racetrack on the left-hand side of your screen. For the special call bets, you can use the separate menu to the right of the layout.

Power Up Numbers

As the live dealer starts the spin, three, four or five random numbers are elevated to Power Up status. Should the ball stop on a Power Up number, all Straight Up bets qualify for the Power Up bonus round.

Power Up Bonus Spins

Whether you wagered on the triggering Power Up number or not, a Straight Up bet places you in the bonus round. In the first round you have the chance to win up to 500x dependent on where the ball lands. At the start of every bonus round the Power Up numbers will change.

Power Up spins can be retriggered a further four times. At the start of each bonus round you will see the multipliers double in value. This happens for each round until the fifth where it hits the maximum 8,000x and there are no more retriggers.

Multipliers

The roulette layout is divided into several sections within which are hidden multipliers waiting for the inevitable bonus spins. Battery lines on top of the sections give you a hint as to where the bigger multipliers are. More lines next to an area means bigger multipliers are hidden in that specific section.

Payouts

Betting types and payouts for Power Up Roulette are the same as classic roulette, with one exception. Straight Up bets have a reduced payout of 24 to 1 in comparison to classic online roulette. This is understandable as it compensates for the huge 8,000x win multipliers available.

Power Up Roulette RTP rates differ slightly between Straight Up bets and all others. When playing with the latter, the return to player is 97.30%. For Straight Up bets the rate reduces by a fraction to 97.19% RTP.

Here’s the complete list of payouts for Power Up Roulette:

Inside Bets

  • Straight Up: 24 to 1
  • Split: 17 to 1
  • Street: 11 to 1
  • Corner: 8 to 1
  • Six Line: 5 to 1

Outside Bets

  • Column/Dozen: 2 to 1
  • Red/Black: 1 to 1
  • Odd/Even: 1 to 1

Gameplay Procedure

Ok, so now that we’ve covered the Power Up Roulette rules, let’s take a walkthrough of the actual gameplay.

  • Place Your Bets. You have 20 seconds of betting time. Place your bets directly onto the betting layout or racetrack. Alternatively select from the Special Bets menu.
  • Spin The Wheel. The live dealer announces “no more bets” and sets the ball in motion.
  • Power Up Numbers. At the start of the spin, three to five Power Up numbers are revealed.
  • The Result. The ball lands in a numbered pocket and all payouts are awarded.
  • Power Up Bonus Round. If the ball lands on a Power Up number, all Straight Up bets qualify for the bonus spin.
  • Multipliers. Every number on the grid is allocated a multiplier.
  • Power Up Numbers. Three to five Power Up numbers are revealed and the dealer spins the wheel.
  • The Result. Payouts are awarded in accordance with the multiplier displayed. If the ball lands on another Power Up number, a second retrigger is activated. Multipliers are doubled, new Power Up numbers are revealed and the dealer spins the wheel again.

Remember that up to four retriggers are available, with the 8,000x multiplier prize appearing in the fifth and final round.

How to Win at Power Up Roulette

Let’s face it, betting strategies are great for extending your enjoyment of the game but not necessarily for winning. Sure, in the short term you could be looking at some decent payouts. But over time, your roulette wins will undoubtedly fall in line with the game’s house edge.

With Power Up Roulette, the aim is to land a winning multiplier. This can only be achieved through playing Straight Up bets. Therefore the most obvious strategy would be to disregard any other bet and just focus on Straight Up wagers.

Volatility Management

If you use this tactic though, you’ll need to have a sizable bankroll or keep the bet value low. You should cover most of the grid and should keep your bet value to below 24 credits. A win will mean you break even with a loss losing you the full 24 credits.

Whilst keeping your bet values low, you’ll be reliant on landing a decent multiplier through the Power Up bonus rounds. Another option would be to place different types of bets on the grid. For instance, Outside bets have a higher probability of winning.

One strategy would be to place an equal value on the Outside bets as you do on the Straight Up bets. If the Straight Up bets lose, you still have an almost equal chance of an Outside bet winning. This would enable you to break even.

Power Up Roulette rules and how to win

Be Realistic

Ultimately, whatever strategy you take, there will be losses along the way. The idea is to manage your bankroll carefully when playing casino games, to give yourself the best chance of success. Know how much you can afford and walk away if it’s just not your day. Don’t think that if you’re losing you can win it back by continuing to play.

Finally, remember to always gamble responsibly. Never play when you’re tired or intoxicated. Consider leaving after a big win and enjoy the fruits of your effort. Look to use casino bonuses to help prolong your bankroll and extend your enjoyment.
